The Medway 11 plus (Medway Test)

Children who want a Medway grammar school sit the Medway Test, which GL Assessment writes for Medway Council. In 2026 it was sat between 15 and 20 September, depending on your child's school, and results came on 14 October. The minimum score for grammar school was 478, set so that 26% of the Medway cohort reached it. You don't have to live in Medway to sit the Medway 11 plus.

When is the Medway 11 plus test?

Children must sit the test at a Medway Council venue in Medway. It can't be sat remotely, and children living outside the UK can't sit it.

Scores and places

Results show the total, a score for each paper and whether your child is assessed as suitable for grammar school. For the 2026 test, 3,962 children sat it, and 995 Medway pupils were assessed as eligible. Papers can't be re-marked, and there are no resits.

Being assessed as suitable doesn't guarantee a place: oversubscribed schools use their admission rules. Chatham Grammar also accepts children assessed as suitable through the Kent Test.
