The Wirral 11 plus

Wirral Council arranges the assessment for the Wirral Consortium of non-Catholic grammar schools, and Quest Assessments provides it. For 2027 entry, children sat it on Tuesday 15 September 2026. Registration closed at 12 noon on 1 June. The Wirral 11 plus can be taken only once, and meeting the standard doesn't guarantee a place.

When is the Wirral 11 plus?

The only late registrations accepted are for children who moved to Wirral after the closing date. If your child is unwell on the day, email secondaryplaces@wirral.gov.uk with their name and date of birth to ask about another session.

The papers

Two papers on the same day, covering verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and maths. Bring the completed ID form on the day. The council's page doesn't give timings or a score needed.

Applying and free school meals priority

The council says to include at least one grammar school on your application by 31 October. Each school's admissions policy explains how places are allocated, and an oversubscribed school uses other criteria to decide. Some of the non-Catholic grammar schools give priority to children eligible for free school meals, who still need to meet the grammar school standard. Tell the council about any change in circumstances before 31 October.
