What changed in the BS7671 latest amendment?
- A new chapter on stationary secondary batteries used to store electricity and supply installations.
- A new section on functional earthing and functional equipotential bonding for information and communication technology (ICT) equipment and systems.
- A new Section 716 on Power over Ethernet (PoE).
- A major revision of Section 710, Medical locations.
- A schedule of test results for recording the resistance of supplementary protective equipotential bonding conductors.
The outline of the IET's Amendment 4 course also lists changes to Parts 1 to 5, a new Chapter 57, and changes to special locations and the appendices.
When Amendment 4 applies
The IET's shop gives 15 April 2026 as the date from which you need a copy, and City & Guilds made centres switch to 2382‑26 from 16 April 2026. The older Amendment 2 and Amendment 3 books had a transition period, and it's now over.
Getting the Amendment 4 book
Amendment 4 isn't a free download. It comes as a new printed book, the IET's Orange Book, or inside an IET digital subscription. The IET has published free A4 model forms, and a 9th edition of the On-Site Guide to match.
Amendment 4 and the 18th Edition exam
If you passed 2382‑22, you studied Amendment 2. Updating to 2382‑26 is what the one-day bridging and update courses are for. Whether you have to update depends on your employer or scheme, not on BS7671 itself. City & Guilds runs 2382‑26 in Scotland as well as England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
