City & Guilds' free 18th Edition mock test
City & Guilds publishes a sample test for 2382‑26 that runs in your browser, and a paper version with an answer sheet and mark scheme dated April 2026. They come from the body that sets the real exam.
Mock exams from course providers are written by the provider, not City & Guilds.
Finding an 18th Edition course near you
City & Guilds' 2382 page has a Find a centre search for approved centres, and the qualification runs in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In Wales, City & Guilds points you to Qualifications in Wales to check for funding.
If you'd rather skip the course and only sit the test, a centre can enter you for the exam on its own.
A study path for the 18th Edition
- Get a genuine paper copy of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026. It's the book you'll use in the exam.
- Learn how it's laid out: Part 1 scope, Part 2 definitions, then Parts 3 to 7, Part 8 and the appendices, and the index.
- Work through the eight learning outcomes, spending longest on protection for safety and selection and erection. They carried the most questions in the 2382‑22 split.
- Read the IET's free FAQs on consumer units, earthing and bonding, and inspection and testing. They explain real regulations in plain words.
- Take City & Guilds' sample test with your book open and a timer running.
