18th Edition Amendment 3, 2 and 1

All three have been replaced by Amendment 4. Amendment 3:2024 was a free PDF bolt-on to the Amendment 2:2022 brown book, and the IET says the brown book and its bolt-on were valid until 15 October 2026, when the Amendment 2 transition period ended. So the 18th Edition Amendment 3 was never a new book: to be up to date you needed the brown book and the PDF together.

Where can you get 18th Edition Amendment 3?

The IET still offers the Amendment 3:2024 bolt-on as a free download from its "Ensure you are up to date" page. City & Guilds' 2382‑22 handbook (January 2025) named the brown book including Amendment 3 as the book allowed in that exam.

It's useful if you're checking older work. For new work and the current exam, it's out of date.

Amendment 2 and its corrigendum

Amendment 2 came out in 2022 as a new book, the brown book. The IET published a corrigendum to it in May 2023, and City & Guilds' 2382‑22 qualification covered both. With its transition period over, the IET says Amendment 2 shouldn't be referenced for new installation work, project specifications, certification or compliance.

Amendment 1 and electric vehicle charging

Amendment 1:2020 was issued on 1 February 2020 and could be used straight away. It rewrote Section 722 on electric vehicle charging installations, based on the European document HD 60364‑7‑722:2018, covering PME supplies, socket-outlets, external influences, isolation and RCD protection. Charging installations started after 31 July 2020 had to comply with it.

The IET still hosts a read-only copy of Amendment 1. It can't be printed.
