The CISI Certificate in Corporate Finance

It takes two units: Corporate Finance Regulation and Corporate Finance Technical Foundations. The CISI corporate finance certificate starts the corporate finance programme that the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) runs with ICAEW, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Ofqual regulates it as the Level 3 Certificate in Corporate Finance, and there are no entry requirements.

  • 50Questions in each unit exam
  • 35 of 50Pass mark, Technical Foundations sample
  • 162 hoursTotal qualification time for the certificate

What the two units cover

The syllabus covers corporate finance law, regulation and techniques, and how corporate finance deals are put together to meet clients’ needs. CISI says it suits people in corporate finance and related areas such as venture capital.

CISI’s factsheet gives each unit as a one-hour exam of 50 multiple-choice questions, and the Version 21 Technical Foundations sample paper matches that, scoring 35 to 50 as a pass. Both units move to new syllabus versions in April 2027.

Is the CISI corporate finance certificate approved by the FCA?

Yes. The Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA’s) appropriate qualification table lists the Certificate in Corporate Finance, for passes after 31 March 2024, for activity 8: giving personal recommendations on investments in the course of corporate finance business. Its key is 1, which means it meets the qualification requirement on its own.
