What CISI’s sample papers show

Each sample paper states the time allowed, the number of questions and how the exam is scored, so it’s the place to find a unit’s pass band. The answer sheet also shows which syllabus element each wrong answer comes from.

Bands can change between syllabus versions. CISI’s older Introduction to Securities and Investment paper had a marginal fail band that the Version 26 paper doesn’t, so use the sample paper for the syllabus version you’ll sit.

Is there a free CISI mock exam?

For Level 6 and 7 exams, CISI says the sample papers, past papers or chief examiners’ reports for each exam are available free of charge through My Study and its website. For multiple-choice exams, its study support page lists sample papers for a selection of exams among the resources in My Study.

My Study is for student members, and you get student membership for a year when you book a CISI exam. Revision Express, with its Sample Exam Standard Test, is a paid product.

Question banks from other providers

CISI doesn’t license its exam content to providers it hasn’t accredited, and warns against their question banks; the courses page explains how to check a provider. Its accredited training partners sell their own practice material: Fitch Learning, for example, includes a mock exam book and an online question bank in its courses.

After a failed exam

A Performance Review shows how you did on each part of the syllabus and how you used your time, to help you aim your revision. It arrives by email within 48 hours, and its fee is on the cost page. Reviews are available for as long as your exam’s syllabus runs, and for two months after CISI republishes it.
