Where to find a mock motorcycle theory test

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has two free mock motorcycle theory tests, each with 50 questions, the 57-minute limit and the 43-mark pass of the real one, plus a free set of 3 hazard perception clips. GOV.UK links all of them. They aren’t the questions used in the real test, but they cover the same topics. For more practice, DVSA’s paid kit and apps from other companies add the full bank of revision questions and more hazard clips.

Is there an official mock motorcycle theory test?

Yes. The two mock tests are on Safe Driving for Life, the site DVSA runs with The Stationery Office (TSO), its official publisher. Switch on the test view in the options to see screens like the real ones, and turn on the voiceover there too.

The mock tests have no hazard clips. Hazard practice is a separate free test of 3 clips, each with one developing hazard, scored up to 5 points a clip.

How practice questions relate to the real test

GOV.UK says DVSA’s practice questions aren’t used in the real test but are based on the same topics. DVSA also licenses its revision questions and practice hazard clips to other companies. It says those aren’t the exact questions and clips used in the test, but they’re very similar.

A licensed product must carry a line saying DVSA gave permission to reproduce Crown copyright material, and it mustn’t look like an official DVSA product or claim DVSA endorses it. So an app that says it has licensed DVSA content is using DVSA’s revision bank, not the live test.

A study plan for the motorcycle theory test

  1. Read the three source books, starting with the Highway Code rules for motorcyclists and the motorcycle licence annex.
  2. Take DVSA’s first free mock test to see which topics you’re weak on.
  3. Go back to the books for those topics, then try the second mock test in test view.
  4. Practise hazard clips until you click as hazards start to develop, not before.
  5. Book the test once you’re passing mock tests and hazard clips reliably.

Choosing a motorcycle theory test app or kit

Check it’s built for the motorcycle test. The Official DVSA Theory Test Kit app covers cars and motorcycles, so pick the motorcycle questions in it. Look at how many hazard clips it has, because that’s where free material is thinnest, and check whether the price is a one-off or a subscription.

From 5 November 2026 the real test uses three video questions in place of the case study. DVSA’s kit listings mention video clips for motorcyclists, so check any other app says it has them too.

Practice for compulsory basic training (CBT) and the riding tests

Mock theory tests don’t cover riding. For CBT and the two riding modules, DVSA points learners to its Guide to Learning to Ride and to the national standard for riding mopeds and motorcycles.
