When bar exam results come out

Your result comes from the jurisdiction where you sat the exam, not from NCBE. For July 2026, states released bar exam results between August 28 (West Virginia) and October 23 (New York, D.C. and Rhode Island), and California's are scheduled for October 30, 2026. Boards often post a pass list or statistics as well, and NCBE links each one.

When do bar exam results come out in each state?

Dates from NCBE's July 2026 table, last updated October 26, 2026, plus the State Bar of California for California. New Jersey, Oregon, Mississippi and Alaska had no date in NCBE's table. For February 2027, California has scheduled its results for April 30, 2027.

Did I pass the bar exam? What your result means

NCBE scores the MBE and reports your score to the jurisdiction where you tested. The jurisdiction grades the written parts, combines the scores and decides who passed against its own passing score. Passing doesn't admit you on its own: character and fitness approval and your state's other steps still have to be done.

If you didn't pass, your score report shows where you lost points, and the next exam is usually about six months away.
