Your GRE score report: getting, checking and keeping scores

You see unofficial Verbal and Quant scores on screen as soon as you finish, if you choose to report them. Official scores, essay included, reach your ETS account about 8 to 10 days after the test, and ETS emails you when your GRE score report is ready. Scores stay valid for sending for five years after the test date.

How do I find my GRE score report?

  1. Sign in to your ETS account at ets.org/mygre.
  2. Open your scores once ETS emails you that they’re posted.
  3. View or print your Test Taker Score Report.

That report has your test dates, scores with percentiles, the schools you sent them to and your five-year score history. It’s for your own records: ETS urges schools to accept only official reports sent by ETS, so send scores through your account rather than a screenshot.

How long are GRE scores valid?

Five years from your test date. After that, ETS won’t send them, and it advises schools not to use scores older than five years. ETS’s score page has a date tool that shows your exact cut-off.

The Diagnostic Service

It’s free and shows which types of Verbal and Quant questions you got right and wrong, how hard each question was and how long you spent on it. That makes it a useful check before you decide on a retake.

Canceling, reinstating or reviewing scores

At the end of the test you choose to report or cancel your scores. Once you’ve seen them, you can’t cancel, and you can’t cancel one measure and keep the others. Canceled scores can be reinstated in your ETS account within 60 days for a fee, and they’re reported about two weeks later.

You can ask for a review of your essay score within 90 days, for a fee. It takes about four weeks, the score can go up or down, and you can’t send scores while it’s under review.
