How to send GRE scores to schools

At the end of the test, after you see your unofficial scores, you can name up to four schools or fellowship sponsors to get them free. After test day, you send GRE scores as Additional Score Reports from your ETS account, paying per school. ETS takes about five business days to process an order, and it only sends your scores when you ask.

How do you send GRE scores on test day?

When you finish the General Test and choose to report your scores, you’re asked to pick up to four free score recipients. For each one, choose a ScoreSelect option: Most Recent sends this test only, and All sends every test from the last five years. You can also send nothing yet. For a Subject Test, you choose recipients when you register.

Sending GRE scores after test day

  1. Sign in to your ETS account.
  2. Order an Additional Score Report and pick the school or fellowship sponsor from ETS’s list of approved recipients.
  3. Choose Most Recent, All, or Any (one or as many tests from the last five years as you like).
  4. Pay the fee for each recipient.

The fee is $40 per school on ETS’s fee list ($35 on its send-scores page), as of October 2026. Once placed, an order can’t be canceled, changed or refunded. If your scores are already out, ETS sends them about five business days after you order; if not, they go when they’re ready.

ScoreSelect: choosing which scores schools see

Each test goes as a whole, so you can’t mix your Verbal from one day with your Quant from another. Schools see only the tests you send, with nothing on the report to show you took others. Some programs ask applicants who tested more than once to send every score, so check what yours want first.

What schools receive

The institution’s report has your name and contact details, date of birth, gender, intended graduate major, test dates and the scores you chose, each with a percentile. It doesn’t show your other recipients or scores you didn’t send. Schools that use ETS’s Data Manager can also see your essay and test-day photo for each test you send.

The five-year limit

Scores can be sent for five years after your test date. A test taken on July 3, 2022, for example, can be reported through July 2, 2027. Near the end of that window, order early enough to leave the five business days for processing. If your name has changed since the test, contact GRE Services before you send.
