Getting your Minnesota driving record or license status

The quickest way to see your own Minnesota driving record is a MyDVS account, where you can request your certified record and check whether your license is valid. You can also get a non-certified copy the same day at an exam station, or a copy at a full-service deputy registrar office, or request one by mail.

Ways to get your record

  • Online with MyDVS: your own record only, and you can view your license status there.
  • Same day at a full-service deputy registrar office, or a non-certified copy at an exam station.
  • By mail: send the Record Request Form (PS2502) with a check or money order to DVS.

Someone else's record

You need an accepted reason on the PS2502 form, or that person's written permission on the Written Authorization form (PS2506). DVS reviews each request. Crash reports are a separate request (PS2503) and only for people involved in the crash.

The DVS central office at 445 Minnesota Street

DVS is in the Town Square Building at 445 Minnesota Street in St. Paul, 55101. Suite 190 takes crash report requests in person, and mailed crash report requests go to the DVS Record Unit, Suite 161. The Records Unit's phone is 651-201-7777.

Fees

DVS charges for driving records but lists the amounts on a separate records fees page, which we haven't checked. Look there before you mail a request.
