The Minnesota Supervised Driving Log

Under 18, you must hand in a Supervised Driving Log at the road test and with your provisional license application. It must show at least 50 hours of supervised driving, 15 of them at night, or 40 hours with 15 at night if a parent finished the approved parent class. DVS only accepts its own log template.

How to fill it in

  • Write each session's date, day minutes, night minutes and the skills you practiced, such as parking or turns.
  • 50 hours is 3,000 minutes, 40 hours is 2,400 and 15 night hours is 900.
  • Add extra pages of the same DVS template if you need them. Logs on any other form aren't accepted.
  • The parent or guardian who supervised most of the hours signs it.

Practice that pays off on the road test

The road test checks parallel parking, parking on a hill, the 90-degree backing maneuver, turns, lane use and intersections. Log time on each one. DVS encourages parents to go beyond the minimum hours.
