How to study it

  • Read Chapter 1 for the rules you'll live by as a new driver, then spend most of your time on Chapters 3 to 6.
  • Learn the sign colors in Chapter 5 before the shapes. The color tells you the kind of sign from far away.
  • Use the DVS Class D Practice Knowledge Test. Each of its 25 questions names the chapter its answer is in.
  • Before the road test, read the checklists near the front of the manual and the DVS Road Test Study Guide.

Other manuals and languages

Motorcycle and moped riders study the Motorcycle and Motorized Bicycle Manual, and commercial drivers the Minnesota Commercial Driver's License Manual, which includes the school bus handbook. The DVS forms page says it has manuals for other languages on the Driver's License for All page, which is translated into Dari, French, Hmong, Karen, Pashto, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.
