Where can you find official NBCOT practice questions?
- Two OTR sample scenario sets, each an opening scene with four items of six options, where you pick the three best.
- A demo of COTA-style six-option multi-select items.
- The OTR and COTA exam tutorials, which show the exam screens and end with sample items for practice.
- The Entry-Level Self-Assessments for OTR and COTA students, which NBCOT calls a free tool. They rate your knowledge of entry-level practice rather than test you on exam items, and stay open until you pass.
NBCOT says its sample items don’t replicate the candidate experience on exam day. NBCOT’s Study Guide and StudyPack hold more practice questions, priced on their own pages.
NBCOT practice tests and prices
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Each OTR Practice Test (1, 2 or 3) | $30 |
| OTR Scenario Item Practice Test | $25 |
| Each COTA Practice Test (1, 2 or 3) | $30 |
Each numbered test has 110 questions: three- and four-option multiple choice plus six-option multi-select items, with scenario items on the OTR tests. The OTR Scenario Item Practice Test has ten scenario sets.
Each test can be taken only once, and you don’t have to finish it in one sitting. You don’t see which answers you got wrong; you get a scaled score report like the real one.
OTR Practice Tests 2 and 3 and COTA Practice Test 3 aren’t in the StudyPack, so buy those separately if you already have it.
The OTKE, through your program
The Occupational Therapy Knowledge Exam (OTKE) is NBCOT’s test for school programs, not for individual sale. Program directors order it through NBCOT’s portal to see how a cohort does against the content outline. Occupational therapy (OT) programs choose from a 100-item Pre-Level II OTKE and 180-item Post-Fieldwork and End-of-Program OTKEs; occupational therapy assistant (OTA) programs have two 100-item OTKEs. Ask your program whether it uses them.
Recalled questions and shared study material
NBCOT’s exams and study tools are protected by federal copyright law. No part of an exam or of NBCOT’s study materials may be copied or shared in any way, including from memory, on Facebook, Instagram or other social media, on study tool sharing sites, blogs or forums, or through AI applications.
Posting exam or study tool questions breaks Principles 2 and 9 of NBCOT’s Candidate/Certificant Code of Conduct. NBCOT investigates violations, and it says they could put at risk your ability to sit for the exam or be certified.
