NBCOT testing locations and booking your exam

Pearson VUE gives both exams from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) at test centers across the United States and in other countries. You book your seat through the Schedule My Appointment button in your MyNBCOT account once your Authorization to Test (ATT) letter arrives. NBCOT testing locations come in three kinds, and they don’t all provide the same things on the day.

  • 1 dayShortest notice to book a seat
  • 48 hoursLast point to change or cancel
  • 15 minutesArriving later than this loses your seat

What are the NBCOT testing locations?

  • Pearson Professional Centers (PPCs) and Pearson VUE Test Centers (PVTCs) are owned and run by Pearson. They share one layout of individual workstations, and earplugs and noise-reducing headphones are guaranteed.
  • Pearson Authorized Test Center Select (PTC Select) sites are often on college campuses. Security matches the others, but room layout, workstations and earplugs or headphones vary, and earplugs there need an approved accommodation.
  • To tell them apart, search on Pearson’s NBCOT page. If “Pearson Professional Center” or “Pearson VUE Test Center” doesn’t come before the name, it’s a PTC Select.

Pearson has given the exams since January 2, 2024. Before that they were at Prometric, which stopped offering them after December 18, 2023.

How to book your exam

  1. Wait for your ATT letter. NBCOT asks you to contact Pearson only after it arrives.
  2. Check the scoring calendar, so you test at least three days before the score date you want.
  3. Click Schedule My Appointment in MyNBCOT to open your Pearson dashboard.
  4. Pick a center and a date inside your ATT letter’s 90 days, at least one day ahead. Same-day appointments aren’t offered.
  5. Read the biometric check-in notice Pearson shows you while booking.

With testing accommodations, follow the instructions in your ATT letter and approval notice. Some accommodations can’t be booked online; Pearson’s accommodations team then phones you within three business days.

Changing, canceling or missing your appointment

  • Change or cancel up to 48 hours before your appointment with Manage My Appointment in MyNBCOT.
  • Trying to change within 48 hours, or not turning up, means asking for a new ATT letter after the date has passed, for a fee.
  • Arriving more than 15 minutes late, or without the right ID, also means you can’t test and need a reissued letter.
  • In an emergency within 48 hours, email credentialingservices@nbcot.org or call NBCOT.
  • If a computer problem at the center can’t be fixed within 30 minutes, you can reschedule for another day in your eligibility period.
