Which class do you need?
- Class A: a combination with a combined weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, towing a trailer rated over 10,000 pounds.
- Class B: a single vehicle rated 26,001 pounds or more, towing a trailer rated under 10,001 pounds.
- Class C: a smaller vehicle that needs a hazmat or passenger endorsement, such as one built for 16 or more people including the driver.
How does the CDL permit test in Oklahoma work?
- Study the CDL Driver Manual for the general knowledge test and the class and endorsement tests you need.
- Bring proof of identity and lawful presence, your Class D license, proof of residency (two for REAL ID) and your Social Security number. The manual says you must be able to read and understand English.
- Pass the written tests and the vision test at a Service Oklahoma Licensing Office. You get your CLP and a DL18 CT form showing your score.
- Finish Entry-Level Driver Training with a provider on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry before the skills test, unless an exception applies.
- Hold the CLP 14 full days. A licensed driver 21 or older with the right class and endorsements must ride with you.
- Take the skills test, about two hours: a pre-trip inspection, basic control and a road test. You bring the vehicle. Third-party examiners also give it and set their own rates.
Is there an Oklahoma CDL practice test?
Service Oklahoma's CDL page points you to the CDL Driver Manual, not a practice test, and Service Oklahoma's free practice test in the Driver Study Hub is for the Standard Class D written test. Study the manual's general knowledge section, then the sections for your class and each endorsement. Some apps, such as Driving-Tests.org, have Oklahoma CDL sections, but their questions are their own, not Service Oklahoma's.
Rules that catch people out
- The CLP is valid for 180 days and can be renewed for another 180, the Driver Manual says. Your skills test results only count while the CLP is valid.
- Pass a section of the skills test and you keep the credit, so you only retest the sections you failed.
- Since February 17, 2026, Service Oklahoma no longer accepts paper medical examiner's certificates. Your certified medical examiner submits it through FMCSA's National Registry.
- A hazmat endorsement needs a federal background check and fingerprints through the TSA.
