Check my licence in WA: status, P plate dates and demerit points

There are two online tools from the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI): the Driver’s Licence Status Enquiry, which shows your licence’s status, and the demerit point check, which lists your points and when they expire. When you check your licence in WA as a P plater, the status tool also tells you when your red P plate restrictions finish. You can also log in to DoTDirect, call DTMI or visit a centre with ID.

Checking your demerit points

The online demerit point enquiry works only for people who hold a WA driver’s licence or learner’s permit. It shows the infringements issued, the points for each, when they expire, and any demerit point notices. Points from offences in other states aren’t recorded on a WA licence.

WA points are recorded within 48 hours of an infringement being paid or registered with the Fines Enforcement Registry, or on the day of the court hearing if you’re convicted.

How many points can you have?

Learner’s permit to end of first year on Ps4 points
Until the end of your second year on Ps8 points

Reach the limit within three years and DTMI issues an Excessive Demerit Points Notice, which leads to suspension or disqualification. Points expire three years after the offence. On long weekends and holiday periods some offences carry double points.
