What’s in the WA road rules theory test quiz?
Each quiz is a set of multiple-choice questions based on Drive Safe, and the motorcycle ones on Ride Safe. Some questions have pictures and some don’t. You have to answer every question before you see your results, and each quiz opens in a new browser window.
How the quizzes compare with the real test
The real car test has 30 multiple-choice questions and you need 24 right. You sit it on a computer at a DTMI service centre or regional agent, with no phone and no handbook. The motorcycle and moped test has 35 questions and needs 28.
DTMI doesn’t say the quizzes use the same questions as the CTT, so treat them as a check on what you know, not a preview of the test.
Using the quizzes to get ready
- Read a part of Drive Safe first, then do one quiz.
- Write down every question you miss and find the page in Drive Safe that answers it.
- Come back to the same quiz a few days later. DTMI lets you retake them as often as you like.
- Sit the real test at a centre when you’re ready. A pass needs 24 of the 30 questions right.
Practice driving tests are a different thing
If you’re looking for practice for the on-road test, the practical driving assessment (PDA), there’s no quiz for that. DTMI points learners to the exercises in its booklet Driving Techniques for Safer Drivers instead.
For the hazard perception test, DTMI has its own sample tests on its hazard perception test page.
Will there be an online theory test?
The State Government said on 26 April 2026 that it will develop an online theory test and hazard perception test in addition to the in-centre tests. It hasn’t given a date, so the quizzes are still the only part you can do from home.
