To renew a learner’s permit in WA there’s no fee from the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI), but you pay for any test you have to sit again.

How do you renew a learner’s permit in WA?

  1. Go to a DTMI service centre or regional agent.
  2. Bring proof of identity.
  3. Fill in the Driver’s Licence Application (Form DLA1).
  4. Resit the theory test if you need to.
  5. Pass an eyesight test.

Do you need to resit the theory test?

Only if you haven’t passed it in the last 5 years. A pass on both the theory test and the hazard perception test within 5 years means you don’t sit either again. The theory test fee applies if you do resit.

Replacing a lost or damaged permit

A replacement card costs $33.30. You can order it through DoTDirect, by post with Form DL26 and certified copies of your ID, or in person. DoTDirect won’t let you if you changed your address in the last 7 days or ordered a replacement online in the last 12 months.

A lost paper log book can be replaced for $10.70, but DTMI can’t verify hours recorded in it, so they have to be done again.
