Red Seal completion grant: is it still available?

No. The federal Apprenticeship Completion Grant, the Red Seal completion grant for apprentices in designated Red Seal trades, closed on March 31, 2025, along with the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant. The last day to send supporting documents was March 31, 2026. Federal help that's still on offer is Employment Insurance during technical training and interest-free Canada Apprentice Loans of up to $20,000.

What did the Red Seal completion grant pay?

A one-time, taxable $2,000 for registered apprentices who finished their program and got journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade. The incentive grant paid a taxable $1,000 a year or level, up to $2,000, for finishing the first or second year of a Red Seal apprenticeship. Both needed you to be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, and not in high school.

What federal support is left in 2026?

  • Employment Insurance benefits while you're in technical training, if you're eligible.
  • Canada Apprentice Loans of up to $20,000, interest-free.

Provincial help

Some exam fees are waived by your province or territory for apprentices; see Red Seal exam fees. Ask your apprenticeship authority what else it offers.
