ALEA lists 76 driver license offices across Alabama, from courthouses to trooper posts, as of October 2026. Its main line is 334-676-6002. Any Alabama driver license office on ALEA's list can give the permit test, but its list doesn't show opening hours, so call before you go. For renewals and duplicates, your county probate judge or license commissioner office works too.

Is there an Alabama DMV?

Not for licenses. The Driver License Division of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) issues driver licenses, permits and ID cards. For vehicle tags and registration, ALEA's own site sends you to the Alabama Department of Revenue, so that's where a tag office search belongs.

ALEA's list has no office in Eight Mile, Glencoe, Homewood, Millbrook or Auburn. For Mobile County it lists Mobile, for Etowah County Gadsden, for Jefferson County Birmingham and Bessemer, for Elmore County Wetumpka, and for Lee County Opelika.

What are the Alabama DMV hours?

ALEA's office list doesn't give hours, so call the office or check its page on the locations map. Closures are posted on ALEA's driver license page. In late October 2026, for example, Pell City closes at 4:30 p.m. on October 28 and reopens at its new address at 8 a.m. on November 2.
