Alabama motorcycle license test and practice

The motorcycle knowledge test comes from the Alabama Motorcycle Manual, not the car manual. ALEA offers no official Alabama motorcycle license practice test, so the manual is your main study tool, and our car practice questions won't cover it. At 16 or older you can get a Class M license, and at 14 or 15 a motor-driven cycle license. Each test costs $5.

Which motorcycle license fits your age

Both are valid for four years. If you apply for a motor-driven cycle license and a learner license together, you take both exams.

AgeLicenseWhat it allows
14 or 15Class M with a B restrictionA motor-driven cycle of no more than 200 pounds and 150cc
16 or olderClass MA motorcycle, on up to three wheels

Is there an official Alabama motorcycle license practice test?

No. ALEA's manuals page has the Motorcycle License Manual, updated in 2024, but no practice quiz. Read it with a notebook and quiz yourself on its numbers. You can also pick up a printed copy at a driver license examining office, a state trooper office, or a probate judge or license commissioner office.

Fees

A motor-driven cycle license is $5 for the test and $36.25 for the license, as of October 2026. ALEA's fee page doesn't list a separate Class M price, and its pages we checked don't describe a motorcycle skills test, so ask the office what applies to you when you book.
