Oregon driver's license cost, from permit to license

If you pass every test the first time, DMV's fees for a first license add up to $146: $7 for the knowledge test, $30 for the permit, $45 for a DMV drive test and $64 for the license. A REAL ID adds $30 to the permit and $30 to the license. That's the full Oregon driver's license cost in DMV fees, as of October 2026. Driver education, if you take it, is extra.

How much is the permit test in Oregon?

$7 a try, whether you take it online or at an office. You pay before you test, and every failed try is charged again. The motorcycle knowledge test is $7 too.

What does an Oregon driver's license cost, fee by fee?

Drive tests with a testing business

If you take your drive test with a DMV-contracted Class C testing business instead of DMV, you pay the business's own fee, not the $45. DMV says these businesses set their own prices and days, so ask when you book.

How to pay

DMV offices take cash, checks, money orders for the exact amount, mobile payments, debit cards, Discover, Mastercard and Visa. Pay test fees and license fees as separate payments, for example two checks, made out to Oregon DMV.
