Booking an Oregon driving test appointment

You can't walk in for a drive test in Oregon. You book an Oregon driving test appointment with DMV online through DMV2U, or you call a DMV-contracted testing business directly. DMV's own advice is to book three to four weeks ahead. The knowledge test is different: you can take it online, or walk in to an office for standby service.

How do you make an Oregon driving test appointment with DMV?

DMV only gives drive tests at some of its offices, and only a limited number, so book early. To book:

  1. Pass the knowledge test and the vision test first. You'll need your instruction permit if you're under 18.
  2. Open DMV2U's appointment page and choose a drive test.
  3. Pick an office and a time.
  4. On the day, bring your documents and a registered, insured car that will pass the equipment check.

Booking with a testing business

Six private companies give Class C drive tests under contract with DMV, in towns across the state. DMV doesn't book, change or cancel these tests, so you call the business. Have your DMV customer number ready: it's printed near the top of your permit, or DMV can give it to you on 503-945-5000. The business also asks for two photocopies of a picture ID, and some make you use their car.

Appointments for the knowledge test and permit

You don't need an appointment for the knowledge test. You can take it online at any time, or go to an office for standby service. If you'd rather not wait, book an office visit on the same DMV2U page. Offices stop giving knowledge tests one hour before closing.
