What the 35 questions cover
The Oregon Driver Manual says the test covers road signs, traffic laws and other driving information, and DMV says the manual covers what you need to pass. DMV doesn't say how many questions come from each section, so study all of Sections 1 to 7 rather than guessing which part matters most.
How many questions can you miss on the Oregon permit test?
Seven. The Oregon Driver Manual's testing section says you need 28 correct out of 35, which works out to 80%. DMV's permit pages give the 35 questions but not the pass mark. There's no separate group of sign questions with its own pass mark, so a missed sign question counts the same as any other.
Is there a time limit?
DMV's test pages don't mention one. At an office, keep in mind that testing stops one hour before closing, so arrive early enough to finish.
How many tries you get
Each try costs $7. At a DMV office you may retest the same day if the office has room. Online you can test twice in 24 hours and four times in all, and after that you have to test in an office. If you're caught cheating, the test is stopped and you can't test again for 90 days.
Other Oregon knowledge tests
The motorcycle endorsement knowledge test is 25 multiple-choice questions, in English or Spanish. Commercial license applicants take separate knowledge tests in English only, and DMV's CDL page doesn't give their question counts.
