The hazard perception part of the theory test

The hazard perception part of the theory test is 14 video clips of everyday road scenes. You click as soon as you see a developing hazard, and the earlier you click, the more you score. You need 44 out of 75, in the same sitting as the 50 multiple-choice questions.

What counts as a developing hazard?

Something that would make you take action, like changing speed or direction. A parked car isn’t one. It becomes one when its indicator starts flashing and it starts to pull away.

How is the theory test hazard part scored?

There are 15 developing hazards across the 14 clips, because one clip has two. Each is worth up to 5 points, which is where the 75 comes from. The sooner you click once the hazard starts to develop, the more points you get.

Clicking at the wrong moment doesn’t lose points. But clicking constantly or in a pattern scores zero for that clip, so you can’t game it.

One go at each clip

You can’t go back, review or change your clicks. Before the clips start, you watch a short video explaining how this part works.
