ServSafe Manager exam access code: what it is and how to use it

It's a one-time number you type in to open the online exam. ServSafe emails your ServSafe Manager exam access code to whoever bought it, you or your proctor. As of October 2026 a code on its own costs $38.99 and needs a registered proctor in the room; the $99 online proctored exam comes with its own code for ProctorU.

How do you use a ServSafe Manager exam access code?

  1. Find the code in your order confirmation email, or get it from your instructor or administrator.
  2. Schedule the exam. For ProctorU, book a session in your ProctorU account, more than 72 hours ahead to avoid an extra fee. For an in-person exam, book with your proctor through ServSafe's Find a Class tool.
  3. On exam day, enter the code exactly as written. ServSafe says to check for extra spaces at the start or a full stop at the end.
  4. Keep the email: each code works once, and a retake needs a new one.

Codes and proctors

Only registered ServSafe instructors and proctors can run the exam, and they can charge for it on top of the $38.99 code. ServSafe keeps a list of revoked proctors who aren't allowed to sell courses or proctor exams, and asks you to check that a provider is genuinely affiliated before you pay.

With the access code, the exam is in English, Spanish, Chinese-Simplified and French Canadian, according to the product page.
