What the test has to cover
State law (R.S. 32:408) says the questions come only from the driver’s manual, and lists subjects every knowledge test must include:
- Highway signs that regulate, warn and direct traffic
- Railroad crossing safety
- Sharing the road with motorcycles and tractor-trailers
- The economic effects of littering
- Distracted driving and trailer safety
- Accessible parking and access aisles
- How to act when a police officer stops you
Numbers worth memorizing
The guide tells you to memorize its numbers. A few of them: dim high beams within 500 feet of an oncoming car; park no closer than 20 feet to a crosswalk at an intersection; stop 15 to 50 feet from the nearest rail; and no more than 200 feet in a shared center lane.
Other OMV manuals
The OMV posts two more manuals on the same page: the Motorcycle Operator Manual, for the motorcycle endorsement test, and the CDL Manual, for commercial licenses.
