Louisiana driver’s license practice test options, and where to study

Start with the Class D & E Driver’s Guide, because the OMV takes every knowledge test question from it. The OMV doesn’t publish a Louisiana driver’s license practice test of its own, and the guide has no sample questions. For practice questions you’ll need an app or website, and the ones compared here had their prices checked in October 2026.

Is there an official Louisiana driver’s license practice test?

No. The OMV’s driver education and manual pages link the Driver’s Guide and study guides, but no practice test. The guide itself gives study tips instead: read it at least three times, memorize the numbers in it, such as distances and measurements, and read every answer before you choose one.

A study plan that follows the guide

  1. Read Chapter 1 for the licensing rules, then Chapter 3 on signs, signals and lane markings.
  2. Read chapters 5 and 6 on safe driving and traffic laws. Note every distance in feet and every time in seconds.
  3. Finish with chapters 8 and 9 on emergencies, alcohol and losing your license.
  4. Take an app’s practice tests and reread the chapter behind any question you miss.
  5. Ask your driver ed instructor about anything in the guide you don’t understand.

Choosing an app or website

Pick one that’s written for Louisiana, so the questions match the Driver’s Guide and Louisiana’s own laws. DMV-Permit-Test.com gives the same 40 questions and 80% pass mark as the OMV. Some app plans renew by the week or month, so check before you pay.
