Fee waivers: can the SAT test cost nothing?

College Board offers fee waivers to eligible students in the US and US territories. Students at school outside the US must also be US citizens to qualify. You only get one set of fee waiver benefits in your life.

  • Two free SAT registrations
  • Unlimited free score reports to colleges and scholarship programs
  • No late registration, cancel or late cancel fees
  • Application fee waivers at participating colleges when you’re a senior

How to get a fee waiver code

Ask your school counselor. They can check if you’re eligible and give you a code to enter when you register. You can also request a fee waiver straight from College Board through your College Board account. If you do, send the request at least 1 to 2 weeks before the registration deadline.

A waiver doesn’t cover everything. You still pay to change your test center, for rush score reports and for scores by phone.

Studying can cost nothing

You don’t need to buy anything to prepare. Bluebook practice tests, the official question bank, Khan Academy’s SAT courses and Schoolhouse.world tutoring are all free.
