Free SAT practice test

Here are 20 free questions in the style of the digital SAT: ten Reading and Writing and ten Math, from words in context to circle equations. They’re our own questions, not College Board’s. Each answer comes with the reason it’s right, and the tutor can explain it a different way. The SAT has no pass mark, so on this SAT practice test, aim for our target of 14 right.

Question 1 of 20

When architect Lena Ortiz designed the Halvorsen Footbridge, she took a deliberately ______ approach. The bridge has no decorative towers, no patterned railings and no colored lights. Its thin steel cables and plain concrete deck are the only things you see. Which choice completes the text with the most logical and precise word or phrase?

How is this SAT practice test different from the real one?

The real SAT has 98 questions in 2 hours 14 minutes, and it adapts to you: how you do on the first module of each section decides whether the second one is harder or easier. Ours is 20 fixed questions with no timer. Use it to find the skills you keep missing, not to predict a score.

On the real Math section, some questions ask you to type in your own answer. All of ours are multiple choice.

Free full-length SAT practice tests

When you want a real score, take a full-length practice test in College Board’s free Bluebook app. It’s timed and adaptive like test day, and My Practice shows your score afterward with every answer explained. You only need a College Board account, not a test registration.

College Board also has paper practice tests as PDFs, numbered 4 to 11, but it recommends them only for students approved to test on paper.
