Approved calculators for the PE and FE exams

For 2026, NCEES allows three calculator families on the PE exam and the FE: Casio models with fx-115 or fx-991 in the name, the HP 33s and HP 35s, and Texas Instruments models with TI-30X or TI-36X in the name. Nothing else goes in. You take one calculator into the room, and there’s an on-screen TI-30XS as well.

The NCEES approved calculator list for 2026

  • Casio: any model with “fx-115” or “fx-991” in its name
  • Hewlett Packard: the HP 33s and HP 35s only
  • Texas Instruments: any model with “TI-30X” or “TI-36X” in its name

NCEES reviews the list every year, so check it again before you test.

Calculator rules on exam day

One approved calculator goes into the testing room, without its cover. Spare calculators and covers stay with your things outside. A TI-30XS is also available on screen during the exam.

Which is the best calculator for the PE exam?

NCEES doesn’t rank or recommend models; any one on the list is allowed. Since only that list goes in, practice with the model you’ll bring, so you aren’t learning its buttons on the day.
