FE exam preparation planner

Set your test date here and you get a plan that fits the days you have: 38 short lessons over nine FE Other Disciplines topics, then our 20 practice questions. For the rest of your FE exam preparation, pair it with the two free NCEES documents in MyNCEES, the FE Reference Handbook and your discipline’s specifications, since the handbook is all you’ll have in the exam.

Put in your FE date and the planner spreads 38 short lessons across the nine FE Other Disciplines topics in this course, from calculus and statics to engineering economics and ethics. The last two days are for our 20 practice questions and a redo of the ones you missed. It follows the FE, not a PE exam.

Pick the date of your test and how long you can study each day. You’ll get a plan that takes you right up to the test.

How to plan your FE test preparation

  1. Pick your FE discipline. Each has its own specifications listing the topics and how many questions each gets.
  2. Download the FE Reference Handbook in MyNCEES and do every practice problem with it open.
  3. Learn to search the PDF: in the exam you use a search box, and Ctrl+F doesn’t work.
  4. Choose an approved calculator early and use only that one.
  5. Book your seat once you’re approved; you can schedule as late as one business day ahead, but seats go first come, first served.

How long should FE preparation take?

NCEES doesn’t say. What it does fix is that you have 12 months to test once you’re approved, and you can take the FE once per quarter and three times in 12 months, so a plan that misses can be rerun three months later.
