How do you get a Nevada DMV permit?
- Pass the written knowledge test, online through KnowToDrive Nevada or at a DMV office.
- Book a general appointment at a DMV office.
- Bring your documents. Under 18, that includes the school attendance form (DMV 301), the Minor Affidavit (DP-38) and a parent or guardian.
- Pass the vision test. If you need glasses or contacts to reach 20/40, restriction B goes on your permit.
- Pay the permit and testing fees. You leave with a paper permit you can drive on, and the permit card arrives by mail within 10 business days.
Who can supervise you
On a car (Class C) permit, you drive only with a licensed driver who is at least 21, has at least one year of licensed driving experience and sits beside you. Carry the permit whenever you drive. Under 18, you hold it at least 6 months before you can get a license.
If your permit expires
If it has been expired for more than 30 days, you take the written test again. You renew an expired permit in person at a DMV office, and a parent or guardian signs a new Financial Responsibility Statement. The DMV may ask you to retake the written test, the skills test or both.
A parent can cancel it
The parent or guardian who signed the Financial Responsibility Statement can cancel your permit at any time. They fill in the Minor Affidavit (DP-38), take it to a DMV office in person and hand in the permit.
