One five-runner logic question, worked through
From our own practice set: five runners, no ties. Bea finished ahead of Cal, Dina finished straight after Amir, Eli was last and Cal was second. Who won?
- Fix what's certain: Eli is 5th and Cal is 2nd.
- Bea beat Cal, and only 1st is ahead of 2nd, so Bea is 1st.
- Amir and Dina take 3rd and 4th, in that order, which fits "straight after".
Bea won. Writing the five places down before reading the options is quicker than testing each answer. More of this style is in the official Decision Making question banks.
What you need, and what you don't
The Consortium says the subtest assesses applying logic to reach a decision, evaluating arguments and analysing statistical information. A simple onscreen calculator is there, and you don't need to know any mathematical or logical terminology.
How are Decision Making questions marked in the UCAT?
There's no negative marking, and raw marks become a scaled score from 300 to 900. The 2026 average was 640 in the UK and 655 in UCAT ANZ.
