UCAT Verbal Reasoning

Eleven passages, four questions on each: 44 questions in 22 minutes, after a 1 minute 30 second instruction section. Every answer in UCAT Verbal Reasoning has to come from the passage in front of you, and no prior knowledge is needed.

A Verbal Reasoning question, worked through

Here's a statement we wrote on a passage from our practice set. The passage says Harwick's library opened in 1872, "moved to a larger building on Bridge Street" in 1894, and that "daytime opening began the following year". The statement to judge: the library was open during the day from 1895.

The answer is True. "The following year" after 1894 is 1895, so the passage settles it. Nothing outside the passage is needed, and nothing outside it would count.

That check has to fit into about 30 seconds a question, reading included (our division of 22 minutes by 44 questions). The Consortium's free Verbal Reasoning tutorial and four question banks are the place to build that speed.

How is Verbal Reasoning scored in the UCAT?

One mark per correct answer, nothing taken off for a wrong one, then converted to a 300 to 900 scale. The 2026 averages were 602 in the UK and 619 in UCAT ANZ, lower than both other scored subtests.
