Which photo ID do UCAT test centres accept?
- A passport, at any test centre
- A photocard driving licence, full or provisional, only in the country that issued it
- An EU identity card or Irish passport card, only at centres in the EU, not in the UK
- Another government-issued ID card, only in the country that issued it
It must be the original (no copies or digital ID), unexpired, with a photo that looks like you, your name exactly as registered, and your signature. If it has no signature, bring an unexpired bank or credit card with your printed name and signature too. Student cards, travel passes and proof-of-age cards are never accepted.
Need a name change? Send a Help Request with a photo of your ID at least 5 working days before your test. Without acceptable ID you can't test, and you pay again to rebook.
What happens when you arrive
- Staff check your ID, take your photo and ask you to agree to the test rules.
- Your belongings go into storage, and staff check your clothing, hands, arms and ears, sometimes with a handheld scanner.
- You can use non-electronic earplugs or ear defenders, or ask for earplugs at the centre. CCTV may record the room.
- Breaks don't stop the clock unless you have approved rest breaks.
- When you finish, raise your hand and you'll be given your printed score report.
What you get to work with
- An A4 laminated notebook and a pen for notes
- A basic onscreen calculator in Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning, with no scientific functions
- Flag and review, to come back to questions if you have time left in that subtest
- Keyboard shortcuts: Alt plus the underlined letter, for example Alt + N for next
Extra time and other access arrangements
- Extra time: usually 25%, for a disability that has a substantial, long-term effect on your speed of working. It isn't given when the difficulty is mainly from English not being your first language.
- Rest breaks that pause the clock: 10 minutes per hour of testing.
- A separate room for 1:1 invigilation, subject to centre availability, or continuous access to items such as food or water.
Apply from your UCAT account before you book, because existing bookings can't be changed to add them. Most applications are processed within 5 working days, and you reapply every year.
