Those are the multiple-choice section’s shares. The essay is a single task: you evaluate a student’s written analysis of a literary text.
Passing each section
You need a scaled score of 200 on the multiple-choice section and at least 5 of 8 points on the essay, from two raters. The guide notes that 5 of 8 on the current rubric equals 8 of 12 on the old one. Once you finish a section and move on, you can’t go back, and unused time doesn’t carry over.
Results come separately too. The multiple-choice section can give you an on-site report, while the essay waits for the later performance score date. If you pass one section, you retake only the other.
Middle Grades English 5-9
Middle Grades English 5‑9 (014) also has about 60 multiple-choice questions in 1 hour 30 minutes and a one-hour essay, with the same passing rules and $75 per section. It’s the test for grades 5 to 9; English 6‑12 covers grades 6 to 12.
