FTCE passing score

It’s a scaled score of 200 on every multiple-choice test, subtest or section of the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE). The FTCE passing score doesn’t change from form to form, but the number of right answers behind it can, because each form is equated to the one used to set the standard. Essays and other performance parts are scored in points instead, and you need to pass each subtest or section on its own.

What is the FTCE passing score for each test?

Test or partTo pass
Multiple-choice tests and partsScaled score of 200
General Knowledge essay6 of 8 points
English 6‑12 and 5‑9 essays5 of 8 points
French and Spanish K-12Composite score of 200 on the whole test
German K-12, Subtest 2Intermediate/high on the oral interview
FELE Subtests 3 and 44 of 8 and 5 of 8 points

Two trained raters score each essay or performance part, and their scores are added. The FELE is the Florida Educational Leadership Examination, for school leaders. On written performance assessments, if the two scores are more than one point apart, a chief rater reads the response too.

How many right answers make 200?

There isn’t one fixed number. Your raw score, the number you got right, is converted to a scaled score, and an easier form needs more right answers for the same 200. Rule 6A-4.0021 records what 200 matched on the forms used to set each standard. For the scores in force since January 1, 2025, those were:

Use these as a guide, not a target: on your form the number could be a little higher or lower. The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) also publishes a table of the maximum percentage of questions needed to pass each test, linked from the program’s Scoring and Reporting page.

Why a pass shows no number

FTCE score reports say PASS or NOT PASS. If you pass, you don’t get a numeric score; the FLDOE says that’s so the scores aren’t used for things like hiring or promotion. If you don’t pass, you see your scaled score and how many questions you got right in each competency. Scale scores also can’t be compared across subjects, because the top of the scale runs from the mid-200s to the 400s depending on the test.
