Free FTCE practice test material from the FLDOE

The free FTCE practice test material from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) is the set of sample questions inside each test information guide, written in the formats the real Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) use, plus Pearson VUE’s computer-based testing tutorials that show you the test screens. The FLDOE calls its guides the only materials it recommends; companies sell longer practice tests, but the FLDOE says it can’t vouch for any third-party material.

Where is the free FTCE practice test from the FLDOE?

Open the resources page for your test on the program website, then the test information guide. Its sample question section starts with a table of the question types on the test, such as command, sentence completion, passage and direct questions in General Knowledge (GK) English Language Skills, each linked to an example. You can print all the questions at once.

Each multiple-choice question has four answer options, though some in GK English Language Skills have three. The GK essay section has two sample essay topics, the scoring criteria and annotated passing and not-passing responses.

Tutorials of the test screens

Pearson VUE’s tutorials show how the real test works on screen: moving between questions, choosing and marking answers, and using the tools. There are seven:

  • Standard multiple-choice
  • Essay, for the GK essay, English 6‑12, Middle Grades English 5‑9 and FELE Subtests 3 and 4
  • Listening, for Music K-12
  • Video, for Deaf or Hard of Hearing K-12
  • French K-12, with speaking, listening and an essay
  • German K-12, with listening and an essay
  • Spanish K-12, with speaking, listening and an essay

Pilot tests: answering trial questions for pay

Now and then the FLDOE runs pilot tests through Pearson VUE to try out questions for future versions. An FTCE pilot notice for appointments from July 2025 was open to current and recently retired educators and educator preparation students, and paid $75 for each completed pilot form with at least 30% answered correctly. Check the program’s home page for any open pilot.
