Passing the ESE test
A scaled score of 200 passes. The State Board of Education set a new standard for ESE K-12 from January 1, 2025, tied to a raw score on the forms used to set it, and the number you need can vary slightly between forms. If you don’t pass, you retake the whole test after 31 days.
Adding ESE to an Elementary Education certificate
Since July 1, 2024, Florida waives the first-time certification and test fees for a teacher with a temporary or professional Elementary Education K-6 certificate who adds ESE K-12, and for an ESE K-12 teacher who adds Elementary Education K-6. The waiver covers only the first sitting, not a retake. Apply on the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) fee waiver site before you register.
