DMV offices in GA: DDS centers and hours

The DMV offices in GA that handle permits and licenses are run by the Department of Driver Services, which calls them Customer Service Centers. DDS lists close to 70 around the state. Most are open Tuesday to Friday, and DDS says all its locations are closed on Mondays. Car tags and registration aren't done here: they belong to the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Is the Georgia DMV the same as DDS?

Not quite. Georgia doesn't have one DMV. The Department of Driver Services handles permits, licenses, ID cards and the tests. The Department of Revenue's Motor Vehicle Division handles vehicle registration and tags. So for anything about your license, go to a DDS center.

What can you do at the DMV offices in GA?

Before any visit, submit the online License/ID/Permit Form. DDS's call center is (678) 413-8400, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Take the knowledge exam for a permit, no appointment needed.
  • Take a road test, by appointment only. Not every center offers them.
  • Get a first license, renew one, or replace a lost or stolen one.
  • Transfer an out-of-state license, reinstate a suspended one, or order a driving history report.

Skip the trip

Many errands don't need a center at all. Renewals, replacements, the Class D to C upgrade and driving records can often be done in DDS Online Services or the DDS 2 GO app, and DDS also has self-service kiosks in some centers and grocery stores.
