Georgia driver's license replacement

A Georgia driver's license replacement costs $10 if your license has at least 150 days left before it expires. You can order it through DDS Online Services, the DDS 2 GO app, or at a Customer Service Center. If it expires sooner than that, you renew instead. The new card can take up to 30 days to arrive.

Can you get a Georgia driver's license replacement online?

Yes, if all of these are true:

  • You hold a regular non-commercial license, ID or permit.
  • Your current card is a REAL ID, with a gold or black star in the top right corner.
  • You're a Georgia resident and a U.S. citizen.
  • Your license isn't suspended, cancelled or revoked. If it is, you can replace only an ID card or limited permit online.

Replacing it in person

Submit the online License/ID/Permit Form, then go to any Customer Service Center. You don't need an appointment. Bring one original or certified Category A document, such as a U.S. passport or birth certificate, and two Category B documents, such as a Social Security card or a current car registration receipt. Copies and faxes aren't accepted, and the name must match your license.

If your license was lost or stolen

Order a replacement the same way. DDS can give you a new license number if your card was stolen or you're a victim of identity theft, or if your current number is your Social Security number.

Replacement or renewal?

If your license expires in fewer than 150 days, DDS treats the request as a renewal, with the renewal fee and a new expiration date. That's usually the better deal anyway, since you get a fresh 8-year term.
