Georgia · Permit test

Can you take the Georgia permit test online?

No, you can't take the Georgia permit test online. The knowledge exam is taken in person on a computer at a DDS Customer Service Center, with no appointment needed. A lot of the rest is online, though: the form you fill in before your visit, the free DDS practice test, road test booking, and many renewals and replacements.

Can you take your permit test online in Georgia?

Not the real one. DDS offers its knowledge exam only at its centers, and misconduct during the test, like using your phone or notes, counts as a fail. What's online is the practice version: a free DDS practice test with signs and rules questions, which you can take as often as you like.

What Georgia DDS online services do

You need a DDS Online Services account. The free DDS 2 GO app does much the same on your phone, and it has the Drivers' Manual too.

  • Submit the License/ID/Permit Form before your visit, so you skip a step at the center.
  • Book, change or cancel a road test.
  • Renew or replace an eligible license, ID or permit.
  • Upgrade a Class D license to Class C at 18.
  • Check your license status, points and any suspension, and pay fees.
  • Order your driving history report (MVR).

Watch out for look-alike sites

The Drivers' Manual warns about private 'DMV' websites ending in .com or .org. Some charge for forms that are free, and DDS says sites claiming to have the test answers are often after your money or personal details. Official DDS pages end in .gov or use dds.drives.ga.gov.

Rules and fees can change, so check the official site before your test.
