How to schedule a driving test in GA

You book it online with DDS, after you submit the License/ID/Permit Form: pick a center, a date and a time, and you're set. That's the whole way to schedule a driving test in GA, since DDS doesn't take walk-ins for road tests or offer same-day slots. The knowledge exam is different: you don't book it at all.

How do you schedule a driving test in GA?

  1. Submit the online License/ID/Permit Form. It stays on file for 60 days.
  2. Open the DDS road test scheduler and choose Automobile, Motorcycle or CDL.
  3. Pick a Customer Service Center, a date and a time. Not every center gives road tests.
  4. Keep your appointment number and the email you used. You need both to change or cancel.

Rules for road test appointments

  • Appointments are required for every car, motorcycle and CDL road test. Walk-ins aren't accepted.
  • Same-day appointments aren't available.
  • If your license is suspended, you can't test.
  • Only one person may come to the center with you.
  • DDS can suspend tests for bad weather or equipment problems, and may reschedule you if you don't meet the requirements.
  • DDS says all its locations are closed on Mondays.

What it costs, and changing a booking

A car or motorcycle road test has no charge to book, as of October 2026. You pay the license fee when you pass: $10 for a Class D or $32 for a Class C. A CDL road test is $50 per attempt, paid when you book, and you must give 72 hours' notice to change or cancel it or you lose the fee.

Booking the knowledge exam

There's nothing to book. You can take the permit knowledge exam at a Customer Service Center without an appointment, as long as you start at least 30 minutes before closing. Submit the online form first so the visit goes faster.
