Your HiSET diploma, certificate and transcripts

Your state issues it, not HiSET. Once you’ve passed all five subtests and met any other rules your state has, it sends a high school equivalency diploma or certificate to the address in your HiSET account. A HiSET diploma from one state is recognized nationwide, so you don’t need to retest if you move.

When do you get your HiSET diploma?

After your last passing subtest, as long as you meet your state’s other requirements. Some states add a step: Illinois, for example, requires an approved U.S. and Illinois Constitution test before it issues the certificate.

Age can delay it. In Iowa, the Marshall Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands, if you pass young, the diploma waits until you turn 18.

HiSET transcripts and extra copies

Order official transcripts, digital certificates and copies from your state, since HiSET’s own reports aren’t your official transcript. Each state’s HiSET page names its provider.

In Texas, the Texas Education Agency’s Certificate Search covers GED, HiSET and TASC records, with a free verification letter or a $5 official PDF.

Is a HiSET diploma the same as a high school diploma?

It’s a high school equivalency credential. HiSET says passing shows performance above the minimum typically needed to graduate from high school, and that employers and colleges in any state accept a state-issued credential. With it you can apply to college, vocational training and jobs that ask for a diploma.
