How to schedule a HiSET test

You book one subtest at a time, in any order. First check your state’s rules on hiset.org, then create a myHiSET account through your state’s login link. After that you schedule a HiSET test online, by phone on 1‑855-MyHiSET (1-855-694-4738), or at a test center, depending on what your state allows.

  • 12 monthsTo pick a new date
  • 7.5 hoursAll five subtests in one day

How do you schedule a HiSET test online?

  1. Log in to your myHiSET account and choose View Available Tests.
  2. Pick the subtest and whether you’ll test at a center or at home.
  3. For a center, choose the test site and an open date and time. For home, choose your time zone, date and time.
  4. Pay and confirm. Your confirmation email has the date, start time, place, ID rules and cancellation policy.

If you have approved accommodations, you can’t book online. Call PSI’s accommodations team instead.

Are there set HiSET test dates?

HiSET doesn’t publish national test dates. You choose from the open slots at a test center, and at-home tests can be booked for any hour of the day, at least 24 hours ahead. You can take all five subtests in one day where it’s offered, about 7.5 hours of testing, but PSI doesn’t recommend it.

Paying for a subtest

  • Online: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB or PayPal, or a HiSET test voucher
  • By phone: the same cards, or a voucher
  • At a test center: whatever that center accepts
  • Paying cash: buy a prepaid gift card that works online

Vouchers come from a third party, such as a state program. You can’t buy one yourself.

Rescheduling or canceling

Change the date, time or place at least 24 hours before your test, and pick a new date within 12 months. You can’t change the format (paper or computer) or the language; for that, cancel and book again.

Cancel at least 24 hours ahead to get your fee back. State and test center fees aren’t refunded, a voicemail doesn’t count as canceling, and a no-show loses the fee. PSI looks at exceptions, such as illness, jury duty or bad weather, case by case with proof.
