HiSET Academy 2026: What You Get for $19.99 a Month

What’s in HiSET Academy?

A pre-assessment and a personal learning plan
A built-in practice test that points you to the lessons you need
Over 200 hours of lessons in math, reading, writing, science and social studies
Essential Skills Workbook practice
Access to student advisors and success coaches by phone, text and email, but not one-on-one tutoring

A higher plan, $23.99 a month or $129.99 for life, adds job, computer and college readiness courses.

HiSET Academy and the official practice tests

The computer-based Official Practice Tests also run on HiSET Academy, but they’re a separate, restricted product. Only approved adult education programs, state directors and test center administrators can buy them, so if your state requires an official practice test, you take it through a program, not your own Academy account. Essential Education’s free practice test is a different thing.

Is HiSET Academy worth it?

That depends on how you study. HiSET describes it as a course you can use alongside an adult education class or on its own. Essential Education recommends the monthly plan if you’ll finish within a couple of months and lifetime access if you’ll take longer. It also offers a scholarship that brings its most popular plan to $15.99 a month. Log in to Essential Education’s site, not myHiSET, to use the course.
