Age rules in Tennessee

At 18 or older, with no high school diploma or equivalency credential, you can test. At 17, if you’re not enrolled in high school, you can apply for an age waiver with the HSE (high school equivalency) Recommendation Form, signed by your local director of schools or a designee, your last nonpublic school’s leader, or a parent if you were homeschooled. Under 17, you can’t take the HiSET in Tennessee.

Retakes in Tennessee

You can take each subtest up to three times in each half of the year, January to June and July to December. Within 12 months of your first attempt, two retakes cost only the $5 test center fee, or the $23 proctor fee at home.
